Fire Emergency Procedures

This information is to the benefit of the tenants occupying Durham Carmichael Building. If smoke or fire is sighted, the following actions/procedures should be followed: 

  1. Pull the handle at the Manual Fire Alarm Pull Box and exit the building. This alarm will: 
    1. Activate audible and visual devices in the building. (These will also be activated in the event a smoke alarm is tripped or sprinkler is discharged).  
    2. Call 911 after you have exited the area and are in a safe location. If possible, call the Building Office at (919) 594-6122 to provide details of the emergency. 
  2. When a fire is discovered: 
    1. Close the door to the fire area. It is extremely important to close doors to keep smoke and flames from spreading. 
    2. Pull the closest Fire Alarm. Pull stations are located on the 2nd floor near the freight elevator in bay 52 and 1st floor in bay 52 near the loading dock door, basement door to outside in stairwell, freight elevator and in bay 47 by the front door lobby. These will automatically notify the Fire Department.
    3. Call 911. (Do Not Call from the Fire Floor) and provide the following information: 
      1. Your Name
      2. Your Company’s Name
      3. Your Suite Number and Floor Number
      4. What is on Fire – Exact Location of the Fire 
      5. Your Telephone Number 
      6. DO NOT HANG UP UNTIL TOLD TO DO SO 
  3. This operator should relay this information to the Fire and Police Departments.
  4. When an audible/visual alarm is activated:
    1. The Building Manager and/or Engineer will proceed immediately to the Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP).
    2. With the assistance of the Tenant Deputy Safety Coordinator and Tenant Searchers, all occupants of the building should proceed to their assembly points.
